Timeline of UPSC CSE 2025-26 Exam

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the 2025-26 UPSC Annual Exam Calendar 2025 on its official website. The annual calendar included examination dates, notice release dates, and registration last dates.

According to the UPSC Calendar 2025, the most popular exam conducted by UPSC, Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2025, was held on May 25^th 2025, and the UPSC exam date for the mains exam was from 22^ndAugust 2025.

Aspirants eagerly await the announcement of the UPSC Final Result for the year 2025-26, which includes marks from the mains and interview stages. These marks are important for individuals in their UPSC journey, as they act as milestones to structure their final ranks in the merit list.

Candidates who appeared for the interview can check their results at the official websites – upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in.

Criteria for Position and Rank in the Final Merit List

The UPSC CSE exam is conducted in three stages – Prelims, Mains, and the Interview. Candidates who successfully cleared the Preliminary round were eligible to participate in the Mains examination. The main exam was conducted in two shifts, from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. The UPSC CSE Mains result was declared on November 11^th. Candidates who cleared the mains were called for the interview rounds.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts various examinations in India, including the Civil Services Examination (CSE), to recruit candidates for prestigious positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services. The final merit list in the UPSC is prepared based on the following criteria:

Preliminary Examination: The CSE consists of two stages. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination, which is conducted to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not considered for the final merit list.
Main Examination: The Main Examination is the second stage of the CSE and carries significant weightage in the final merit list. It consists of a written examination comprising nine papers, including two qualifying papers (English and an Indian language) and seven merit-based papers (Essay, General Studies I, II, III, IV, and two optional subjects).
Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who qualify for the Main Examination are called for the Personality Test, also known as the Interview. The interview assesses the candidate’s personality traits, communication skills, and overall suitability for a career in civil services. The Interview carries weightage in the final merit list.

Merit Calculation: The marks obtained by candidates in the Main Examination (written examination) and the Interview are considered for the final merit list. The weightage assigned to the Main Examination and the Interview is generally in the ratio of 7:3. However, the UPSC has the discretion to alter the weightage ratio if deemed necessary.

Final Merit List: The final merit list is based on the candidate’s cumulative performance in the Main Examination and the Interview. The marks obtained in the Main Examination are added to those obtained in the Interview, and a candidate’s rank is determined based on the total marks secured.

Outcomes of the UPSC CSE 2025-26 Result

The Commission seeks to fill 958 vacancies through the 2025 recruitment process. Candidates who score above the cut-off marks will be recruited to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services and posts.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 final results were declared on March 6, 2026. Anuj Agnihotri, an MBBS graduate from AIIMS Jodhpur, secured the All India Rank (AIR) 1, followed by Rajeshwari Suve M with AIR 2, Akansha Dhull with AIR 3, and Raghav Jhunjhunwala securing AIR 4.

In the last few years, women have dominated the top positions, with Ishita Kishore securing AIR 1, followed by Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi N, and Smriti Mishra in the 2022 results.

Shruti Sharma secured All India Rank 1 in the UPSC CSE 2021 exam. In the 2021 results too, all the top three positions were bagged by women – Ankita Aggarwal bagged AIR 2 and Chandigarh’s Gamini Singla 3.

The overall pass percentage of women has increased in the last few years. While the pass percentage remained constant at 24 per cent in 2018 and 2019, it increased slightly to 29 per cent in 2020 but dropped sharply by 3 points to 26 per cent in 2021. However, in 2022, it jumped once again to 34 per cent. Last year, one-third (320) of the 933 candidates recommended for appointment were women.
