UKPSC PCS is a state-level examination conducted by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) to recruit candidates for various administrative posts in the government of Uttarakhand, India.

Paper I: History of India, National Movement, Society, and Culture

  • Art Forms, Literature, and Architecture from ancient to modern times
  • The Freedom Struggle – its various stages and important contributors/contributions from different parts of the country
  • Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present
  • Salient Features of Indian Society
  • Diversity of India: Role of women and women’s organizations, population and associated issues, poverty and developmental issues, urbanization, their problems, and remedies
  • Effects of globalization on Indian society: Social empowerment, communalism, regionalism & secularism
  • The history of the world will include events from the 18th century such as the Industrial Revolution, world wars, redrawing of national boundaries, colonization, decolonization, political philosophies like communism, capitalism, socialism, etc., their forms, and their effect on society

Paper II: Indian Polity, Social Justice, and International Relations

  • Indian Constitution’s historical underpinnings, evolution, features, amendments, significant provisions, and basic structure
  • Functions and responsibilities of the Union and the States, issues, and challenges on the federal structure, devolution of powers and finances up to local levels, and challenges therein
  • Important aspects of governance, transparency, and accountability, e-governance applications, models, successes, limitations, and potential; citizens charters, transparency & accountability, institutional and other measures
  • Role of civil services in a democracy

  • Important Geophysical phenomena such as earthquakes, tsunamis, Volcanic activity, cyclones, etc.
  • Post-independence consolidation and reorganization within the country
  • Salient features of the world’s physical geography: Distribution of key natural resources across the world (including South Asia and the Indian subcontinent)
  • Factors responsible for the location of primary, secondary, and tertiary sector industries in various parts of the world (including India)
  • Geographical features and their location: Changes in critical geographical features (including water bodies and icecaps) and flora and fauna and the effects of such changes

Paper IV: Economic and Social Development

  • Major crops and their cropping patterns in various parts of the country, different types of irrigation and irrigation systems storage, transport, and marketing of agricultural produce and issues and related constraints; technology in the aid of farmers Issues related to direct and indirect farm subsidies and minimum support prices
  • Indian Economy and issues relating to planning, mobilization of resources, growth, development, and employment
  • Inclusive growth and issues arising from it

  • Human Values – lessons from the lives and teachings of great leaders, reformers, and administrators; the role of family, society, and educational institutions in inculcating values.

UKPSC- PCS Procedure and Preparation

The process of shortlisting candidates for the Uttarakhand Combined State Higher Secondary Services Examination, commonly known as UKPCS goes through the following stages of the procedure. 

The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) conducts the UKPCS (Uttarakhand Provincial Civil Service) examination to recruit candidates for various administrative posts in the state government of Uttarakhand, India. There will be 3 stages for the selection process- Prelims, Mains, and Interview.

Stage I- UKPCS Prelims: The UKPCS Prelims is the first stage of the UKPCS selection process. It consists of two papers: General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II (also known as Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT). Both papers are objective and done offline (pen and paper-based). General Paper-I covers topics like History, Geography, Indian Politics, Economics, Science, and Current Affairs, General Paper-II tests the candidate’s understanding, interpersonal skills, logical thinking, analytical ability, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Stage II- UKPCS Mains Exams: The candidates who appeared in the UKPCS prelims exam can appear in the UKPCS mains exam. The UKPCS Mains Exam 2024 will be a written exam consisting of several compulsory and optional papers. The final paper includes subjects like General Hindi, Essay, General Studies (Paper-I to Paper-V), and optional subjects of two papers (chosen by the candidate). The candidate will have to choose an Optional subject from the list of subjects provided by UKPSC.

Stage III- UKPCS Interview- The Personality Test: The UKPCS candidates who clear the main exam will be called for a Personal Interview. Interviews are conducted to assess the candidate’s personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, and general suitability for an administrative role. The UKPCS Interview is very important in the final selection process.

UKPCS Final Selection Procedure: The final recruitment of candidates for the UKPCS Vacancies and Posts will be based on aggregate results in the Mains Exam and the Interview. Marks obtained in the preliminary examination are not considered for final selection.

UKPSC will prepare the final merit list based on the performance of the candidates and the candidates are allotted the posts based on the rank and availability of vacancies.
