Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the 2024-25 UPSC Annual Exam Calendar 2024 on its official website. The annual calendar included examination dates, notice release dates, and registration last dates.
According to the UPSC Calendar 2024, the most popular exam conducted by UPSC, Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2024, was held on June 16th, 2024, and the UPSC exam date for mains-2024 was from 20th September 2024.
Aspirants eagerly await the announcement of the UPSC Final Result for the year 2024-25, which includes marks from the mains and interview stages. These marks are important for individuals in their UPSC journey, as they act as milestones to structure their final ranks in the merit list.
Candidates who appeared for the interview can check their results at the official websites – upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in.
UPSC CSE exam is conducted in three stages – Prelims, Mains, and the Interview. While the UPSC CSE 2024 prelim exam was held on June 16th, the CSE main UPSC exam was held for five days from September 20th, 2024. Candidates who successfully cleared the Preliminary round were eligible to participate in the Mains examination. The mains exam was conducted in two shifts, from 9 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts various examinations in India, including the Civil Services Examination (CSE), to recruit candidates for prestigious positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services. The final merit list in the UPSC is prepared based on the following criteria:
Merit Calculation: The marks obtained by candidates in the Main Examination (written examination) and the Interview are considered for the final merit list. The weightage assigned to the Main Examination and the Interview is generally in the ratio of 7:3. However, the UPSC has the discretion to alter the weightage ratio if deemed necessary.
Final Merit List: The final merit list is based on the candidate’s cumulative performance in the Main Examination and the Interview. The marks obtained in the Main Examination are added to those obtained in the Interview, and a candidate’s rank is determined based on the total marks secured.
The Commission seeks to fill 1,056 vacancies through the 2024 recruitment process. Candidates who score above the cut-off marks will be recruited to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services and posts.
The UPSC 2023 topper was Aditya Srivastav with a total of 1099, followed by Animesh Pradhan with 1067 marks at AIR 2, and then Donuru Ananya Reddy with AIR 3.
In the last few years, women have dominated the top positions, with Ishita Kishore securing AIR 1, followed by Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi N, and Smriti Mishra in the 2022 results.
Shruti Sharma secured All India Rank 1 in the UPSC CSE 2021 exam. In the 2021 results too, all the top three positions were bagged by women – Ankita Aggarwal bagged AIR 2 and Chandigarh’s Gamini Singla 3.
The overall pass percentage of women has increased in the last few years. While the pass percentage remained constant at 24 percent in 2018 and 2019, it increased slightly to 29 percent in 2020 but dropped sharply by 3 points to 26 percent in 2021. However, in 2022, it jumped once again to 34 percent. Last year, one-third (320) of the 933 candidates recommended for appointment were women.
The UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam is extremely hard to crack and only a few dedicated and hard-working individuals ace it. This uphill battle takes back-breaking work and persistence from one’s side. It is possible to make it happen if you decide and dedicate most of your time and efforts to it.
A firm commitment and persistent hard work uplift a person to places that are only dreamt of by others. If you have a dream, start working for it. Your preparation starts the minute you begin. Often, the small steps and not the giant leaps bring about ever-lasting changes. So, begin today, begin now!
The aspiration for UPSC exams can be very rightly expressed in the words of the Great Missile Man of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, “A dream is not what you experience in your sleep. A dream is that which does not let you sleep.”
Your dream can always become a reality once you start aiming for it in your awake state. Understand and get familiar with the syllabus. Brush up your basics with NCERT books. Your target should be your priority. Regularity and revision should become your rituals. It should be kept in mind that UPSC demands an analysis of a topic. It aims at evaluating your critical thinking and decisiveness.
